If an enormous humpback whale swim through seas sequined acrobats and cows wearing leotards balance atop each other, you know Circus Amok is in your park! Circus Amok! performs free, one ring-circus spectaculars in NYC parks across the boroughs. In 2014, Cumulous Frenzy was presented at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of the Next Wave Festival.

Gregory collaborated with Director Jennifer Miller from 2014-2017, as a performer and puppet, mask and set designer for Circus Amok's NYC parks tours.

In 2016 Gregory was awarded an Artist Grand from the New York State Council on the Arts for his work with Circus Amok.

"Designing for Circus Amok has been the opportunity to directly address the public with large, demanding, curious, queer, and spectacular art. My work for Amok includes large-scale backdrop paintings and the puppets and masks that dance, tumble, and stilt in front of them. The outdoor performance sites mean the design must attract attention with loud, colorful graphics that demand curiosity and reward investigation."

CIRCUS AMOK!

Circus Amok…reinventing the circus form, borrowing drag fabulousness from Charles Ludlam’s Theater of the Ridiculous, large scale transformation using whole-body masks from Bread and Puppet Theater, and the outdoor bally and verbal rhythm and repertoire from the sideshow, as well as movement vocabulary from post-modern dance. The troupe balances danger with laughter, slipping its critique between the pies in the face and the surreal, scary, and sometimes gender-bent characters of the charivari.
